Teach Us to Number Our Days! Make Us Glad for As Many Years We’ve Seen Trouble

TO REMEMBER:

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father & your brothers have come to you, & the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father & your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.” Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in & presented him before Pharaoh…. And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred & thirty.  My years have been few & difficult”…. Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh & went out from his presence.

? – Gen.47:5-10

TO UNDERSTAND:

Pharaoh was kind-hearted, wise, broad-minded, generous & one who never exploited others for his personal or kingdom’s advantages! He was willing to give the best land to Joseph’s family & provide job to some of his brothers.

Like most of us would like to say, Jacob testified that his life was short & difficult. And, not just as an old person but as a man of the true GOD he blessed Pharaoh! How to count days!!

Teach us to number our days,… Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.

(Ps.90:12,15)
